Jutson Rocks

Project Description

The Jutson Rocks project comprises two adjacent exploration licenses which are prospective for Nickel Sulphides and Iron Ore, that run across a Greenstone Belt. Global Nickel also has a strategic Option agreement over a neighbouring tenement with current owner Graynic Metals Ltd.

If acquired and combined with Jutson Rocks, the third EL(A) 38/1850 would essentially add another 10km to the strike length of the Global Nickel Greenstone Belt. Along with previous Gold, Nickel and Platinum discovered a Banded Iron Stone Formation Iron Ore, is present within these tenements.

Location of the Tenements

Site Location & History

During 2000, there was a discovery of a large Ni-Cu-Pt soil anomaly, 1000m by 250m wide and containing peak values of 800ppb Ni, 712ppm Cu and 23ppb Pt. Subsequent in-fill soil sampling and mapping further defined the northern area and two significant PGM anomalies were outlined at Mt Warren and Mt Cornel.

The Jutson Rocks project represents a rare land package within the far eastern goldfields of Western Australia that covers virtually an entire greenstone belt. This belt has previously demonstrated gold, base metal and platinoid mineralisation yet has only had minimal modern grassroots exploration conducted to date.

This extensive greenstone belt with associated significant regional structure and surface gold mineralisation may have potential for significant large scale mineral resources within the project area.

The tenements are located 125km northeast of Laverton within the Mount Margaret Mineral Field on the eastern extremity of the north-eastern portion of the Eastern Goldfields Province.

The project area covers 50 contiguous strike kilometres of the NNW striking Jutson Rocks Greenstone Belt (RGB). The Belt averages 8.7km in width, from Mt Cumming in the north to slightly north of Mt Grant in the south.

The project area excludes a small group of tenements that surround the Chapman's Reward/Jutson Rocks workings but otherwise covers the vast majority of the greenstone belt (320km2 between the two granted exploration licenses E38/1540 and E38/1541).

The Mt Cornell license application area (EL(A)38/1850) would add an additional 10km strike length of the under-explored JRGB.

Opportunites

This tenement acquisition now provides the Company with almost entire coverage of the Jutson Rocks Greenstone Belt. Under the acquisition agreement, Global Nickel will be responsible for carrying out exploration activities including 1,500 metres of RC drilling within the project area.

The narrow, 8-10km wide, Jutson Rocks Greenstone Belt consists of a broad series of extrusive and intrusive ultramafic, mafic and felsic rocks together with pyroclastics and sediments. Structurally the greenstone belt is complexly folded and faulted.

Generally there is a transition from an ultramafic dominated terrain in the east to predominantly felsic rocks and BIF to the west. A major regional NNW trending shear zone (1-3km wide) is evident in the southern portion of the project area.

Latest Activites

  • Work is continuing with the anthropological land clearance survey to allow exploration to the ground. Background work on the geology has been completed and exploration programs are underway.
  • Global Nickel has been granted access approval and now is progressing the next stage of clearance work.
  • A comprehensive soil sampling program and a magnetic survey are ready to be conducted in November 2009.
  • This area has previously demonstrated gold, base metal and platinoid mineralisation. The presence of an extensive greenstone belt and surface gold mineralisation indicates there is potential for large mineral resources to exist.
